1 And now the wall had been rebuilt, the gates had all been put in place, and the Temple guards, the members of the sacred choir, and the other Levites had been assigned their work. 2 I put two men in charge of governing the city of Jerusalem: my brother Hanani and Hananiah, commanding officer of the fortress. Hananiah was a reliable and God-fearing man without equal. 3 I told them not to have the gates of Jerusalem opened in the morning until well after sunrise and to have them closed and barred before the guards went off duty at sunset. I also told them to appoint guards from among the people who lived in Jerusalem and to assign some of them to specific posts and others to patrol the area around their own houses.
The List of Those Who Returned from Exile
(Ezra 2.1-70)4 Jerusalem was a large city, but not many people were living in it, and not many houses had been built yet. 5 God inspired me to assemble the people and their leaders and officials and to check their family records. I located the records of those who had first returned from captivity, and this is the information I found:
6 Many of the exiles left the province of Babylon and returned to Jerusalem and Judah, each to his own hometown. Their families had been living in exile in Babylonia ever since King Nebuchadnezzar had taken them there as prisoners. 7 Their leaders were Zerubbabel, Joshua, Nehemiah, Azariah, Raamiah, Nahamani, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispereth, Bigvai, Nehum, and Baanah.

61-62 There were 642 belonging to the clans of Delaiah, Tobiah, and Nekoda who returned from the towns of Tel Melah, Tel Harsha, Cherub, Addon, and Immer; but they could not prove that they were descendants of Israelites.
63-64 The following priestly clans could find no record to prove their ancestry: Hobaiah, Hakkoz, and Barzillai. (The ancestor of the priestly clan of Barzillai had married a woman from the clan of Barzillai of Gilead and taken the name of his father-in-law's clan.) Since they were unable to prove who their ancestors were, they were not accepted as priests. 65 The Jewish governor told them that they could not eat the food offered to God until there was a priest who could use the Urim and Thummim.

1 لمَّا بُنيَ السُّورُ ورُفعتِ الأبوابُ بمصاريعِها، عيَّنْتُ البوَّابـينَ والمغنِّينَ واللاَّويِّينَ، 2 وولَّيتُ على أورُشليمَ أخي حنانيَ وحنَنْيا قائِدَ القلعةِ وكانَ حنَنْيا رجلا أمينا وأكثرَ مخافةً للهِ مِنْ كثيرينَ، 3 وقُلتُ لهُما: «لا تُفتحْ أبوابُ أورُشليمَ إلى أنْ تَحْمى الشَّمسُ وتُقفَلُ قبلَ أنْ تَميلَ الشَّمسُ إلى المَغيـبِ». وأقمتُ حُرَّاسا مِنْ سُكَّانِ أورُشليمَ، بَعضُهُم في مراكزِ الحِراسةِ، والآخرونَ كُلُّ واحدٍ قُبالةَ بـيتهِ. 4 وكانتِ المدينةُ واسعةً وعظيمةً والشَّعبُ قليلا في وسَطِها، ولم تكُنِ البـيوتُ مبنيَّةً بَعدُ.

39 ومِنَ الكهنةِ بَنو يَدْعيا بنِ بَيتِ يَشوعَ تسعُ مئَةٍ وثلاثَةٌ وسبعونَ 40 وبَنو إِمِّيرَ ألفٌ واثنانِ وخمسونَ، 41 وبَنو فشحورَ ألفٌ ومئتانِ وسبعةٌ وأربعونَ، 42 وبَنو حاريمَ ألفٌ وسبعةَ عشَرَ.
43 ومِنَ اللاَّويِّينَ بَنو يَشوعَ وقدميئيلَ مِنْ بني هُودُويا أربعةٌ وسبعونَ، 44 والمغنُّونَ بَنو آسافَ مئَةٌ وثمانيةٌ وأربعونَ، 45 والبوَّابونَ بَنو شَلُّومَ وبَنو أطيرَ وبَنو طَلْمونَ وبَنو عقُّوبَ وبَنو حَطِيطا وبَنو شُوبايَ مئَةٌ وثمانيةٌ وثلاثونَ.
46 وخدَّامُ الهَيكلِ بَنو صِيحا وبَنو حَسُوفا وبَنو طَباعُوتَ 47 وبَنو قِـيروس وبَنو سِيعا وبَنو فادُونَ 48 وبَنو لَبانةَ وبَنو حَجايا وبَنو سَلْمايَ 49 وبَنو حانانَ وبَنو جَديلَ وبَنو جَاحرَ 50 وبَنو رآيا وبَنو رصِينَ وبَنو نَقُودا 51 وبَنو جَزامَ وبَنو عَزا وبَنو فاسيحَ. 52 وبَنو يَسايَ وبَنو مَعُونيمَ وبَنو نَفيشسيمَ 53 وبَنو بَقبُوقَ وبَنو حَقوقا وبَنو حَرحورَ 54 وبَنو بَصليتَ وبَنو مَحِيدا وبَنو حَرْشا 55 وبَنو بَرقوسَ وبَنو سِيسَرا وبَنو تامحَ 56 وبَنو نَصيحَ وبَنو حَطيفا.
57 أمَّا ذُرِّيَّةُ عبـيدِ سليمانَ فبَنو سُوطايَ وبَنو سُوفرثَ وبَنو فَريدا 58 وبَنو يَعلا وبَنو دَرقونَ وبَنو جَدِّيلَ 59 وبَنو شَفَطْيا وبَنو حَطِّيلَ وبَنو فُوخرةِ الظِّباءِ وبَنو آمونَ. 60 جميعُ خُدَّامِ الهَيكلِ وذُرِّيَّةُ عبـيدِ سليمانَ ثلاثُ مئَةٍ واثنانِ وتسعونَ.
61 وهؤلاءِ الّذينَ رجَعوا مِنْ تَلِّ مِلْحٍ وتَلِّ حَرْشا وكرُوبَ وأدونَ وإِمِّيرَ ولم يقدروا أنْ يُبرهِنوا على أنَّ عشائِرَهُم ينتسبونَ إلى بَني إِسرائيلَ: 62 بَنو دَلايا وبَنو طوبـيَّا وبَنو نَقُودا ستُّ مئَةٍ واثنانِ وأربعونَ، 63 ومِنَ الكَهنةِ بَنو حَبابا وبَنو هَقُّوصَ وبَنو بَرزلاَّيَ الّذي تزوَّجَ امرأةً مِنْ بناتِ برَزِلاَّيَ الجِلعاديّ وتسمَّى باسمِهم 64 هؤلاءِ بحثوا عَن سِجِلِّ أنسابِهِم فلم يَجِدوهُ، فَحُرِموا مِنَ الكَهنوتِ. 65 وقالَ لهُم حاكِمُهُمُ اليهوديُّ أنْ لا يأكلوا مِنَ الطَّعامِ المُكرَّسِ للرّبِّ حتّى يقومَ كاهنٌ للأوريمِ والتُّمِّيمِ ويَفصِلَ في الأمرِ. 66 كُلُّ هؤلاءِ معا اثنانِ وأربعونَ ألفا وثلاثُ مئَةٍ وستُّونَ. 67 فَضلا عن عبـيدِهِم وإمائِهِم وهُم سبعةُ آلافٍ وثلاثُ مئَةٍ وسبعةٌ وثلاثونَ وعنِ المُغنِّينَ والمُغنِّياتِ وهُم مِئتانِ وخمسةٌ وأربعونَ. 68 أمَّا جِمالُهم فأربعُ مئَةٍ وخمسةٌ وثلاثونَ، وحَميرُهم ستَّةُ آلافٍ وسبعُ مئَةٍ وعشرونَ.
69 وتبرَّعَ بَعضُ رُؤساءِ العَشائرِ للعمَلِ في بناءِ الهَيكلِ، فأعطى الحاكمُ للخزينةِ ألفَ دِرهمِ ذهبٍ وخمسينَ طاسا وخمسَ مئَةٍ وثَلاثينَ قميصا للكَهنةِ 70 والآخرونَ عشرينَ ألفَ دِرهمٍ مِنَ الذَّهبِ وخمسةَ قناطيرَ مِنَ الفِضَّةِ. 71 أمَّا سائرُ الشَّعبِ فأعطى للخزينةِ عِشرينَ ألفَ دِرهمٍ مِنَ الذَّهبِ وأربعةَ قناطيرَ ونِصفَ القِنطارِ مِنَ الفضَّةِ وسبعةً وستِّينَ قميصا للكَهنةِ.
72 فسكنَ الكَهنةُ واللاَّويُّونَ وبعضُ الشَّعبِ في أورُشليمَ. أمَّا البوَّابونَ والمُغنُّونَ وسائرُ بَني إِسرائيلَ فسكنوا في مُدنِهِم.
